Check the output of dmesg and look for something like:

hdc: LITE-ON LTR-48125W, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdd: CD-202E, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

Hopefully your device will be listed.

Then try to mount the device with either:

mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom - if that fails try specifying the filesystem
type with either:

mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom or
mount -t vfat /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom

If it comes up with any errors, post them here.
