I *think* this is to do with what's connected to the various IDE channels.
I'd imagine hda and hdb would be what was on the first IDE channel (each can
support 2 devices) and hdc and hdb would be what was on the second IDE
channel.  But you just have the two disks, and one has been put on the first
channel, and the second one on the second channel.

That'd be my best guess (but don't trust me too much...I'm a software guy...
;-)).
