Thanks for the info about the hard disks.

Well, I've got as far as I can now ... there is a problem with the 3rd 
install disk, it has an I/O error. 7 minutes from the end of the 
installation, with only 47 packages to go out of 632 (I decided not to 
install everything after all!).

A friend with broadband is going to download and burn another copy of 
disk 3 for me, then I'll try again.

Will keep you posted.
