I did. Power down, that is.

It looks like the CD drive is working.

I took a quick look online and found something suggesting I should type
linux hdc=nodma (assuming my CD is the third thing connected to my ISA).
That bombed out after a while with error 2 reading header: cpio: Bad
magic, exiting abnormally - received signal 11

That's it for the evening now, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd
appreciate them.
