Do other operating systems adopt a Windows approach, or do they just
do things better?

I don't see the Mac interface adopting Windows 'norms' in order to
sell more. They just do it by being cooler.

There are some distros that specialise in aping Windows, so that
covers that.

I don't think people who love Linux could bring themselves to create a
'my computer' directory.

However, mounting discs, yep, that was a big stumbling block for me at
uni.

The latest distros sound like they've maybe sorted out the software
upgrading, dependencies thing. I wouldn't know, I'm still on RH9.
