[SLUG] Video in .. how do I begin?

Hi ppl

I want to take a VHS tape, play it in a video recorder, take its
output into my video card, and record the file so I can edit it.

Assuming I can connect the video player to the video card, how do I
tell Linux to save what's happening to a file?

Still using RH9. I'm learning about video theory, scan lines, all that
good stuff, but I'll not be able to start that if I can't get the
video into the computer.
