Hi ppl

The next SLUG meeting is this Monday (7:30, Valley Bar). Martin's done
a lot of prep and is dragging kit around to make it happen so if
you're in two minds .. please turn up in support.

I've just sent the following to the Evening News. I've missed the 'You
Might Like This' announcement (again). I promise to try harder next
time.

Cheers
J

This month's meeting of the Scarborough Linux User Group is dedicated
to a showing of the best bits of the six hour 'BBS Documentary'
<http://bbsdocumentary.com/>, the story of bulletin board systems.

Before the Internet a pioneering band of users set up their computers
to welcome anyone who called. It was the computing wild west, the
1980s, and this is the story of the people who wanted something more
and went ahead and invented it.

Anyone interested should turn up at The Valley Bar on Valley Road, at
7:30pm on Monday 3 October or visit the SLUG website at
http://www.scarborough.lug.org.uk/ where they can join the mailing
list and ask any questions they wish.

Linux is an increasingly popular alternative, low cost operating
system for almost all computer systems. Most software that runs on
Linux is called 'free' referring both to its cost, and to the fact
that users are more free to copy and use software and free to improve
it to suit their needs. Many equally capable yet free alternatives to
popular programs are available to run on Linux, for example word
processing, graphics manipulation, music composition and video
editing.

Scarborough Linux User Group meets monthly to discuss Linux news and
try new software in a social environment.

The following November meeting is on Wednesday the 9th and will be
devoted mainly to talk about Richard Stallman and the free software
movement. Those wishing to attend in November should check the SLUG
website http://www.scarborough.lug.org.uk/ beforehand.
