Make your decision afterwards.

I used HTML::TokeParser to mung details straight from web pages; 
companies included were all of those in the (geographical) area I was 
looking for found under the YP sections: software.*, internet.* etc.

Filtering was subject to the following:

i.   If it was hard to locate details, they are out.
ii.  If I arbitrarily didn't like the look of them - out.
iii. No large financial institutions ( been there before - yuck! ).

The important thing is to cast the net as wide as possible.  For 
unsolicited enquiries I reckon you can expect about a 1% return.

A greater number of responses empowers *you* to make decisions, rather 
than be at the mercy of some recruiter who phones you up asking if you 
have any experience with ASP[1]
