[sclug] PDA's

Hmmm...... I guess it depends on what you want to use your PDA for - or
more accurately, what you can do without, as some stuff works well on
one PDA, but another PDA does a poor job.
I use a Sharp Zaurus PDA for a lot of sysadmin stuff while on the move
as it has quite a bit of expandibility (takes CF and SD cards) and runs
Linux. It's also quite a neat games player, and it's not too difficult
to compile new games onto it (with a bit of patients - but it''s a lot
of fun !)
The PIM stuff sync's OK with windows stuff (Outlook etc) , but I have
had a few problems getting it to work well with Qtopia, although I hear
other folks have had few if any problems....

Zaurus' (Zarusi ?) are also quite a good price for the spec. You can get
a bluetooth stack off of www.killefiz.de/zaurus/ and find compatible
bluetooth cards is not too hard (For the CF slot, although I have heard
that it may be possible to get some cards that fit in the USB docking
slot at the bottom of the Zaurus...(can anyone confirm ?)

Other PDA's people have been please with are Compaq iPAQ series, which
you have the flexibility of windows CE or Linux...

Or... you may want to wait and take a look at the Zaurus C700, which is
around in Japan at the moment, and can be obtained in the UK as well
now, but some of the apps are not quite finished. It has a 640x480
screen on it though !
