I also said this was on RH 7.3 (or possibly 8)

The problem is related to the version of UML in the rpm and the kernel you
are running, I have run into this myself.

Kind of busy but over the weekend ill have another play with it myself,
however I don't have a RH9 box @ home anymore.

What kernel are you running?

I thought I'd give UML a go after wednesdays chat.

So I have a Red Hat 9 box.

I installed  user_mode_linux-2.4.19.5um-0.i386.rpm  no problems.
downloaded root_fs_toms1.7.205.bz2 and unpacked it and renamed it to
root_fs
then ran

Leon you said it worked out of the box  :-)  Doesn't need any patches
you said.  so what did I do wrong?
