I'll give this a try --- previously I was using the stock Debian package.

Back-up plan: replace my PCMCIA Atmel card (for which a Linux driver exists) 
with my Windows-only Cardbus Realtek 8180 card, and try and get ndiswrapper 
working. Wish me luck...
