So much power in such a small space I guess - especially regarding the CPU as
it's inevitable that as each generation packs more components into smaller
spaces heat also increases. Add to that hot running faster drives & gfx
cards so many systems need an extra case fan, let alone the PSU fan.

I don't know what your budget is but I managed to get a 533MHz mini itx from
ebay with memory, PSU & a case for just over £100. Great for running kubuntu
& as a mythTV backend (to serve a live stream or recordings to more powerful
systems on the network - which sort of defeats the point of it being so quiet
really ;~) Audio decoding is fine but it struggles with video above 384 x
288 so not much use as a mythTV frontend unfortunately.

I've always been uncomfortable with the amount of power a modern PC uses even
when sitting idle. The mini itx box stays on most of the time now as a
media/backup server & I can watch TV or time shifted programs from a laptop
anywhere in the house. The next project is a second hand Hauppauge MVP so
all being well that will act as a SILENT myth front end plugged into the TV &
stereo :~) Just need the time to set it up!
