I got bluetooth working. There are a few problems.

1) Like many thing with Linux, there are multiple versions of the
Bluetooth stack to go for. The default one, Bluez comes as part of the
Kernal since about 2.4.6, but none of the actual tools to control it are
distributed with the versions of Redhat I'm using.

2) I installed the Affix stack without realising which other loadable
modules belonged to the the Bluez stack, so they conflicted.

Once I removed all the Bluez modules, Affix worked.

Next I'm going to write an sync util for Evolution, and cut my teeth on
C under Linux .... wish me luck.
