Thanks for the welcome, Tony and Rick :)
I've had a gander at the Linode documentation in the past few weeks. Some of
it is useful and easy to follow. One site that's been recommended to me is
vpsbible.com.
I think my problem is that I can get a bit impatient with reading and just
want to dive in and get things working - doesn't always work out that way,
though!
As for Android... I've got an HTC Desire that I'm generally quite happy
with. Rooting it makes it far more flexible than the standard network ROM.
