Or you could just clone the disk and create a new partition in the free space. Then you could put your  recordings in this new partition.
This way your recordings will not be lost if you every have to reinstall the os.

Not sure if clonezilla has the option resize on the fly but you may be able
to resize the partition using parted if not. This depends on the file
system though.
