[Blackpool] Mint & KODI

Hi All
     Hope Tony is recovering, in his absence could anyone help please. 
Tony supplied a tower system to a pal with Mate installed, my mate 
added KODI but now on boot up the tower switches off as it starts to 
display the Mint desktop. Tower will run for hours using Ubuntu from a 
DVD so assume KODI is the culprit & not overheating etc.
     Anyway can anybody suggest a way of uninstalling/disabling KODI, 
Am hoping he can use the shift key to get into recovery mode before 
Mint/Kodi is activated as a start to the process!!.
