[Bradford] 10 free software applications you should try...

Hi,

I produced an article on this a few years ago. It'll be out of date now
and I can't find the original. But it included the following software:

Firefox
Thunderbird
Gimp
VLC
Audacity
Open Office

You probably also want to include a decent text editor, I was using
Scite at the time, but there's probably something better.

If we're talking phones, then clearly Android needs mentioning.

The Really Slick Screensavers often get mentioned for Windows, just as
a bit of eye candy which doesn't need any training.

Which just leaves one space left for a decent game.

Part of me wants to add in something highly specialised or server
based. Not because anybody's actually going to try it, but as a way of
showing just what's out there and what's being used. So maybe the Lamp
stack should be mentioned, or some highly specialised scientific
software.
