[Bradford] Debian Lenny support ends tomorrow (Monday)

I am in the position of many in not liking Unity. Also the new HUD doesn't really appeal to me. However, have you seen Mint's Cinnamon desktop? From what I understand they are actively making it available for other distros. Positive remarks, re Cinnmon, have been made on various Linux podcasts. For me the menu is too much like Windows and I really don't want reminding of the bad old days. Afaik Ubuntu may also ship with the 'Mate' desktop which is a fork of Gnome 2, I might go for this. There are quite a few YouTube videos demonstrating Cinnamon. My favourite channel for these things has to be InfinitelyGalactic but he hasn't reviewed it yet.

Spatry (Cinnamon, but he doesn't show the menu):

gotbletu ( Cinnamon. He does show the menu but also some of his own configurations - so not 'out of the box')

I'm likely to have to support a number of people who still haven't
upgraded from Debian Lenny yet.  Has anybody done the upgrade
recently?  How smooth was it?

And talking of upgrades, I note that the next Ubuntu LTS is due for
release in April.  Does it make sense to be upgrading to 12.04 given
the recent talk of new features and how different it will look and
feel compared to 10.04?  I've threatened to start using Centos on
desktops where we want long term support, but what are other people's
favourite desktop distros with long term support?
