Thank you for that clarification John. I've never used KDE because I didn't like the menu system at the time. Perhaps it is worth a second look.

Plasma Active isn't a distro;. Plasma is the 'desktop' framework for KDE4 - Active adds touchscreen functionality to that framework.

KDE now talks about offering a 'software collection'  from which you can choose the elements you want. That is why is has been possible to 'roll' a distro for Raspberry Pi that leaves out the memory hogs.
