Hi Mike
I get on well with Virgin Media and would recommend them... if they have
cabled your street. It's not cheap though and they like to bundle
everything, but their broadband service is reliable - only one (noticed)
outage in a year - and is always running at just above the specified speed.
Prior to switching to VM I was with PlusNet for many years and had no
problem with them. Obviously PlusNet's FTTC @45Mbps couldn't compete with
VM's DOCSIS @350Mbps. So until FTTH services appear around here I'll
probably stick with VM. Prior to PluNet I used Freeola and Force 9, but
that's going back many years to dial-up, and I doubt these even exist any
more.
I do have a 'backup' Internet service, using ADSL with Post Office. It came
'free' with their phone service. I only power it up once a month to make
sure it still works, just in case I ever really need it for work. So I
can't comment on the reliability, other than it works every time I try it!
