Hi Guys,

As you know I work in a company that has a lot of careless users and such.
We had one user who managed to break an oldish but sexy Dell X300 laptop.
It's a sweet little thing. She claimed it stopped working one day. Truth is
the screen tells a different story. You can see the shatter marks on the
LCD.

It was pretty much beyond repair screen wise (and economically) so I got
given it. So now its becoming a mini home server because a) it uses a lot
less power than my P4 desktop case server and therefore greener and
secondly, its just a good idea because it will help me learn about unix and
save a nice little lappy from the skip Also it has a 3 hour battary. Battary
backup perhaps (can you do "on cutting ac power, do a graceful shutdown" ?

So far I have added another 128MB, so it has 256 built now and replaced the
tiny Toshiba 20 GB HDD with an 80 GB I had laying about.

So I want it to do just a few things:

Be an file and print server
Function as a proxy with pptp encyption (so i can surf at work and not get
hauled up for playing games)
light (As in very light) HTTP/FTP server

This means stripped down and lightweight is the order of the day, freebsd
all the way, but as you know most of my bsd knowledge is limited, so that
means so far I installed FreeBSD 6.1 with ssh access via wheel group.

Anyone interested in creating a lean mean server

Stuey
