Hi Paul,
Offer of help MUCH appreciated.
Working from memory, my 901 has 20G of solid-state memory, of which 4G has been dedicated to the OpSys, but I think you can change this. Looking at the system info, it's telling me that I have 1024Mb of RAM. Disk Utility says 14378M of storage and 3847M for system. CPU is an Intel (r) Mobile Processor (Atom), but I can't see anything about clock speed in system utilities or the manuals. I've not delved into the BIOS (yet).
Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,
I have 2 eeepcs and my mother has another. It would help to know the spec on yours.
My eeepc is the 904HA (1.6 atom processor, 2Gb RAM (upgrade from 1Gb supplied), 160 Gb hd). I run Ubuntu 10.04 from it with no problems.
My older eeepc was the 700 ( 800Mhz Processer underclocked to 500ish Mhz, 512 Mb RAM, 2Gb ssd). Default Xandros worked but was awful. Other linux attempts needed to install to a 4b SDHC card. They were slow and clunky. My wife currently runs XP on it.
My mother's eeepc 900 (900 Mhz Processor, 1Gb RAM, 12 Gb ssd) The drive is a 4 Gb drive running XP and an 8Gb drive running Linux. It took me a while to find a distro that wasn't painfully slow or totally naff on it. If it looked lower tech than XP, she wouldn't use it. It currently runs Linux Mint LDXE. It runs faster than XP.
If you tell me the spec on your eeepc, I can advise you and help you through the install if you want.
