[Chester LUG] Fwd: Help with installing Linux Mint on to a Korean Samsung NC110 without USB or CD mounting

This may sound daft, but have you tried plugging the stick in and then checking the bios for hard drives? My netbook doesn't usually show the option unless the stick is plugged in. Once it's in, however, I can easily change the source drive.

             Dear friends,

I have been lurking in the background watching all your
traffic with interest. Although I have used Linux for some
years now I am still very much a newbie in abilities. I
live very close to the Rake and Pikel and would love to
drop in sometime but Thursday evenings are not always good
              for me.

I wonder if anyone from the LUG group could help me with
my netbook problem. I posted on the Mint Forums and got
              some pointers as indicated below:

How to install Mint 15 Mate on Samsung
                NC110 without USB/DVD

I run Mint 15 Cinnamon on my Inspiron 15 - have
been using Mint now for some years . Last year, while visiting
South Korea, I bought a Samsung NC 110P (Model code NT
                  NC110 PSW) with a Korean keyboard - so I could I type
in Korean easily. It came with Windows 7 Starter in
Korean. I hoped I might be able to load Linux Mint but
on opening the BIOS I discovered it has no option to
boot into USB - it doesn't have a DVD drive. I've
tried loading Mint on to a USB stick but, of course,
that won't boot, either. I have used Mint4win and can
run Mint 15 MATE within Windows and everything that I
need seems to work. As far as I can see the hardware
                  for a NC110 will run Mint 15 (MATE 32bit at least - I
seem to have an accelerator problem for Cinnamon with
                  this netbook).

Is there any way of installing Mint as my main OS on
this netbook and wiping Windows from the hard drive
because Mint would then run much faster, wouldn't it?
I no longer have Windows on my Inspiron .

Any ideas? If any of the Korean friends can help me -
that would be an added bonus! 누구나 저를 도와 주시면 감사하겠읍니다!

                  Many thanks!

              Ok, 1 last shot

Plop boot manager, it seems that you can install it on
              your hard drive

              http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager/full.html

              http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager/download.html

I also checked in the Tutorials and came across http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/171
describing How to install Mint with no USB/CD. I tried
working through things as per the Tutorial but I've got a
bit stuck and don't feel confident to go any further.

I wonder if there was anyone who would be willing to give
me a couple of hours - perhaps at the Rake and Pikel (I'll
be glad to host refreshments!) - to get Mint installed
properly on to my netbook. I can run Mint within Windoz
but it is just a bit slower and I don't need (Korean)
Windows 7 and so would be glad to ditch it from the
netbook once Mint is up and running.

My wife and I are leaving for the USA for a couple of
weeks holiday on the 28th August and would like to take
the netbook with me as my traveling computer.

Is there any chance of a little help before then?

              Many thanks for your attention.

              Best wishes,

              Nic Deane
