Yeah I had a great time over in Australia - very hot!
I would probably install CentOS and use KVM for the virtualisation, or whatever is needed to give me an advantage on the RHEL exam(s). Yes, then I’d place CentOS and BSD VMs on there. Maybe two of each?
I’m thinking of either the BSDA or BSDP: http://www.bsdcertification.org/certification <http://www.bsdcertification.org/certification>

For single user playing then I think it would be more than adequate. Are you thinking of putting a hypervisor on the box then RedHat or BSD VMs? Which of the BSD certs are you looking at?

As for the G8, I haven't used them (got plenty of the G7 in stock!) but I have heard good things about them. It has a much better CPU, which is where the G7 came up short. Not sure how much heavy lifting you could do with it (you wouldn't want it as a hypervisor for lots of VMs), but for the certs with a single OS on there then I'd think it should do the job.
