Two of the largest ISPs in the UK - BT and TalkTalk are now using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) to probe the data received and transmitted by their customers in order to target advertising at them more effectively, and monitor them for what they consider to be unfavourable activity (in which case they cut you off).

What you can do:
1. Sign the petition to the prime minister - takes a matter of seconds to do (last time I checked it had 15,000+ signatures):


2. Write to your MP or MEPs in protest - see the following to find out who represents you and how to contact them:


3. Cancel your BT or TalkTalk Internet subscription - you have the right to cancel any contract you have with them, whether it stipulates a minimum period of time or not, as these company's actions constitute a MARKED CHANGE in the terms and conditions which you initially agreed to. Call them up and let them know why you are leaving them. You have the right!
4. Attend the march on BT on July 16th in London - Join thousands of others, including MPs and the national media, to voice your protest against illegal invasions of your privacy:
