[Deaf-lug] Linux Virgin

I have a little network here. I have a Mentor router which has 4 Ethernet
ports and one of those goes to a cable that runs through the loft into the
living room (its a bungalow). I have a little D Link switch on there and it
all runs from the router in the Mentor box.

However Wi Fi would save a lot of creeping about laying cables! I have a
friend who regularly uses a lappy or a Treo from bed.
People seem to be worried about hackers breaking into their system with Wi
Fi but it's just folklore really, if the encryption is enabled and the
signal the correct strength it will be quite secure.

Even without encryption it's not everyone who knows how to stand on the
pavement with a laptop hacking in! I don't think security will be a problem
with wi fi but it will save a lot of hassle setting up flexible systems.
I hope a Linux one comes along soon but in the meantime I am trying to get
this one to recognise the network card!
