[Deaf-lug] newbie here

My Pi arrived on the 7th, and it is much smaller than expected (or I have
bigger than average hands?!) - anyone else get theirs yet?

Pity that XWindows still doesn't do OpenGLES, doubt we'd have to wait very
long. The entire gfx subsystem obviously is available in all its glory for
(homewritten) applications not requiring X11, so media-centres with
existing MythTv et al will need to be shelved for a tad while...

Exciting times ahead I repeat!

To be honest I often talk about Linux mainly on the Deaf-UK-Technology
list rather than this so I'm a tad guilty of not contributing posts to
this, but also because it's not terribly active...*slap wrist*.

I've ordered the RPi myself too and trying to not drool too much at
the idea of these awesome little bundle of joys. I can just imagine my
wife's face when she is wondering why I am all excited over a little
green circuit board :) - the house will probably be drowning in them
eventually as I use them for various things! :D

One of the key language that is recommended for the Raspberry Pi is
Python so for those that doesn't know it here's a free source of
learning material from a free e-zine called Full Circle Magazine
(primarily all about Ubuntu).

http://fullcirclemagazine.org/tag/special/

Volume 1, 2, and 3 in learning Python available

It's free. Code Academy (the online tutorial site, which currently
help you to learn Javascript) is apparently planning on doing a Python
tutorial series too - http://www.codecademy.com/ but still worthwhile
anyway if you fancy learning Javascript.
