Many thanks to everyone for the details on home networking. I'm 
pretty sure now getting the thing to work will be 
straightforward. Now for the scary bit - my first install of 
Linux! 

This is going to be my development server so I can stop knocking 
over all (hah, both) my clients' web sites every time I get a 
syntax error in whatever mod_perl handler I happen to be working 
on. Finally decided it was time to go for it after discovering 
they'd been down for 15 minutes before I realised.
