Hrm, two modems shouldn't be a problem though it does stop you sharing
out the line. Why would wireless be problematic out of interest?
 
If you can guarantee that one of the machines will be up all the time
a peer to peer wireless lan setup would be possible and significantly
cheaper than a router based solution though it would take more work
setting up.
