[dundee] Broadband

2nd attempt to post - Apologies to the moderator - forgot to check which
account I was sending from!
 
Hi all, total newbie here.
I have installed SuSE 9 (out of box, no kernel updates) and all went
surprisingly well and automatic - BUT - I cannot get my broadband up and
running!
 
I am using Conexant PCI Access runner ADSL Modem, Athlon XP 2,500+ 1GB
DDR PC3200 RAM
I have tried changing the VPI setting to various permutations of: 0.38 /
0,38 / .38 / ,38 all with no success
 
Any suggestions please? 
I am hoping to attend the next meeting in Dundee on the 2nd Feb. So far
I like the look and feel of Linux and want to learn more.
