Okay Guys,

No one's mentioned Dell this week, what do you guys think about it.
Personally i think it is a nice move forward by Dell, maybe it could have
been done sooner rather than later but what the hay

I'm kinda interested and it helps promote Linux in my opinion, but will it
last is the question. I suppose the question of the day for “The List” is,
would you buy a Dell now because they support a bit of the old Tux magic, or
have you made do for so long without their support that it's not going to
change a thing??

Another interesting bit of news i found on my travels through the
Cyber/Linux/News is that the very nice people at Shipit and Ubuntu are
preparing to send out copies of Ubuntu's new up and coming release Feisty
Fawn 7.04. I'm sure everyone here probably knows you can order free CD's of
Ubuntu of Shipit, this is not to say that they turn up to your door the next
day, but they reckon about 6 weeks. I personally have always been impressed
at the speed maybe just three to four weeks, and they'll send you up to
thirty at a time. Really handy to give out to people wanting to try Linux.
Here's the link but they are shut for orders at this very mo, but I'm sure
it won't be too long - https://shipit.ubuntu.com/myrequest

Oh and while i'm here i suppose a shameless plug to ask people to sign the
Gary McKinnon petition as well. As some of you may know this is the guy who
apparently the biggest military hacker that the good old yanks have ever
had, but in reality he's just a geek who went looking for UFO pic's. I'm
not saying by any stretch of the imagination that the guy is a.) right and
b.) doesn't deserve some form of punishment, but to be extradited to America
to face a trail as a terrorist is another think entirely. At the moment
60-70 years in prison is the term being thrown about, and apparently he was
very lucky not to end up in Cuba in an orange jump suite.
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/GaryMcKinnon/ Personally i think that the
American's are wanting a new Mitnick, but that's my opinion. -

Looking forward to the next Linux Society meeting on the 12th but as of yet
no volunteers to do a wee talk on a Linux subject, so it looks like it may
get left down to me, so any good ideas are welcome.

Speak to all soon

Arron
