Disclaimer: I don't use Ubuntu

I'm not sure what you mean by login tab? Obviously you are getting to
the X login screen (GDM most likely)?

Are you saying that when you enter your login details you are
immediately returned to the X login screen? Or are you taken somewhere
else?
