I (and all my colleagues that discuss that very example regularly) agree with 
you on that, especially when we have Oracle, MSSQL and MYSQL available to 
students.

Running Access with ColdFusion is the reason we have so many student web 
servers this year(all virtualised on virtuozzo), we split all the access users 
of so they can destabilise and lock coldfusion without taking out all the 
other students.

Unfortunately, I think academics like to get their moneys worth out of a 
course, so running it repeatedly over the years with as few changes as 
possible, seems like the most effort-efficient plan.
