I'm afraid that the spec seemed to meet the bill of web mail and browsing 
with a minimum screen size of 14", so I' ve ordered one of these:

operating system. this means I may be yelling for help to get Slackware 
into/onto it, but as others think it runs well with Ubuntu and That came 
with this issue of "Linux Format", Im not too worried at the prospect.

Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions. It was the 
uk.comp.os.linux newsgroup that pointed towards this particular product.
