we've been running atx motherboards of batteries for years, way before
patentzilla came along.

Here is an article on how Google runs its servers. 1160 servers in a standard shipping container each with a 12v battery backup in case of power failure. The data centers  are just stacks of shipping containers built on top of each other. They use Gigabyte motherboards with dual CPU's and it looks like 8 banks of memory. I wouldn't like to be the maintenance man for looking after everything.
