Red Hat has just released the Open Source Index, a study in conjunction with
the Georgia Institute of Technology comparing and contrasting open source
activity and environment across 75 countries:

The interactive map gives the open source index for each country, here is
the top ten:

1. France
2. Spain
3. Germany
4. Australia
5. Finland
6. U.K.
7. Norway
8. Estonia
9. U.S.A.
10. Denmark

So we're in sixth place, not bad.
