Top posting seems to make more sense in a 2 person conversation,  
bottom posting in a multi user conv. I'd be willing to bet that most  
people use email to hold 2 way conversations, which would explain the  
top post default. I'd certainly welcome a (my:) client that could let  
me change the type of posting depending on whom I'm replying to.
