openbox huh, can i get that on ubuntu , or is a compile from source job?

so, be interested to put windows and linux head to head on power management...

perhaps there's another distro i can use which is gear for low power consumption?

firefox zapps cpu even when not in the foreground.... maybe firefox mobile would be
and idea.

looks like i'll have to go back to using lynx at the cmd line...

hehehhehh

it's so 1970's..

a throw away comment embedded in some forum suggests
"switching off Firefox's phishing verification (which runs fsync) has made a noticeable difference in performance."

maybe futher looking into what apops use fsync and where.

as for the desktop. is it worth maybe looking at something like openbox based on a  minimal instal eg something like chrunchbang linux
