Subject: Press Release - Independent Games Workshop
Ladies & Gentlemen, forgive the press release... this is kind of
important. Following the redundancies and bad things in Dundee, the
wider gaming community would like to do something to help the many
people affected - and try to retain as much of the talent and
expertise in the country as we can. SO, we've set up a FREE workshop
for those interested in starting up their own indie games studio.
Many of the local companies are supporting this - as well as TIGA and
the local colleges and universities. It's open to everyone, students
and the currently employed as well as the ex-RTW/Cohort people. If
you can mention this online and give it a push, it would be hugely
appreciated and hopefully lead to many more new studios emerging from
the rubble. Any questions, or if you need any more information,
please e-mail or call me - details below. Thank you, Brian...
Free Workshop For Videogame Start Ups
Dundee, Scotland. August 25th 2010. A free workshop for videogames
developers who wish to set up their own independent studios, is taking
place in the Scottish Enterprise Dundee offices at 12pm on Tuesday
August 31st.
In association with Interactive Tayside, Digital PR company Revolver
has assembled some of the country's leading experts across every area
to advise and encourage a new generation of videogames developers in
Scotland.
Aimed at developers who were recently made redundant, as well as
existing start-ups, the workshop offers advice on creating a studio,
funding for games, marketing and pr, protecting your IP and taking a
game to market.
Speakers will provide information on their own area of expertise,
before taking questions from the audience and then holding breakout
sessions for those interested in more in-depth information.
Brian Baglow, Revolver's head of interactive entertainment, says, “The
most exciting and innovative areas in the games market are those in
the independent areas, where smaller companies are targeting new
platforms and digital distribution channels. However starting a new
company can be daunting, so we've lined up a wide range of experts,
who can provide insight into all the areas a new studio will face,
from the very basic business essentials, through to publishing your
first game and making sure people know about it.”
Dr Richard Wilson, the of chief executive officer of TIGA, agrees.
“The recent redundancies have been a huge blow to the interactive
sector in the UK. However there is a huge amount of talent and
experience around Dundee and we'd like as much of it as possible to
stay in the country create their own studios. There are already many
young, high-growth start-ups in Tayside and we hope this workshop will
be the first step in welcoming many more. TIGA, the trade association
representing the UK games industry, is committed to helping small and
start up developers to grow and prosper.”
Confirmed participants in the workshop include:
Scottish Enterprise – How to start up your own interactive business.
Abertay University – Funding for games, the IP fund
Murray Buchanan Associates – Protecting Your Intellectual Property
Ludometrics – Digital distribution options
Revolver PR – Telling the world, make sure your game SELLS
Dundee College – Making sure you have the skills you need
Blitz 1Up – Support & advice for indie start-ups
News and updates can be found on the indie games workshop Facebook
page and Scottishgames.net.
The workshop is free of charge and open to anyone interested in
