[dundee] Recommendations for SMS Gateway?

Can anyone recommend a reliable company that provides SMS gateway services (ideally with an API & primarily in the UK, but ideally also with EU coverage)?

We are needed to send regular, personalised reminders to individuals at user-defined intervals in a large (>900 participants) study. 

The technical side isn't a problem, but finding people who have good experiences with SMS Gateway firms and can recommend them is proving difficult. If it helps make this more TLUG'gy - the deployment is hosted in Linux ;)
