Top posting, just to annoy people and because I'm older than everyone else. 
The top-posting 'rules' were for different technologies than we use now, 
chaps.

I would suggest that you purchase another card anyway - you can always go for 
a multi-monitor setup and see whether the new card / monitor misbehaves. 
Also, you might check that you monitor cable is correctly seated, with the 
screws tightened (NOT over-tightened, but I know you are an engineer). 
Lastly, you could run a memory check.

Hardware is indicated as your problems (or the problems) extend across 
distributions.
