Might as well tell him now, since this is all part of configuring X, all you need to do is open /etc/X11/XF86Config. Scroll to your "InputDevice" section, and then find the line which says:

Option "XkbLayout"  "us"

and simply change that to say

Option "XkbLayout"  "gb"

The keyboard layout for the console should already be set, since it is one of the first questions asked during installation
