[Nelug] Backing up Files

I would like to backup a directory on my Linux (suse 7.3) fileserver accross
a LAN to a DVD-RW drive. The problem I have is that the dir is aprox 25Gb
and I have no backup software to split the backup over multiple disks. Is it
possible to use some combination of utils on the server to create a zip?
archive and them split the file into 4.5Gb chunks that I can then copy to
DVD? I so what commands would I need to both backup and restore the backup?
