Of course the other option, if you still actually like Ubuntu underneath
and just want shot of Unity would be to download the minimal install usb
image.

That install gets you little more than vi, bash and apt.  But you can then
go on and intstall X and $windowmanager

+1 for fluxbox.  I used it myself for a long time before becoming a tiling
wm freak.
