My fstab entry for doing essentially the same thing reads:

  otherbox:/music  /mnt/music  nfs  defaults,user  0  0

and gives me no problems.  (Note specific nfs declaration)

Nope.  Works fine for me (but usually after midnight); but Phil Hands'
machine (debian.hands.com) is quite often being hammered so hard it's
virtually unreachable.
