Further to my mail querying why a contact persistently gets blank emails from
me if I respond to a mail of hers rather than initiating a new mail, Martin
wondered if she was using PostIni. She replied:

The answer to all your points is basically "No" - never have any problem
> with plain text from elsewhere nor do I use PostIni so don't understand
> what the problem is. Of all the hundreds of emails I get (and I do get

Tim suggested:

But since all the other mails she receives are fine, I can't see how it could
be just mine that get stripped!

And odd that I don't have this problem either with mails I send to other
people.

It seems that the problem only occurs if I am "replying" to one of her mails.
So long as I initiate a new mail, she receives it satisfactorily with all the
text.

Her latest response today was in answer to a new mail of mine. She replied in
plain text. Usually there is an html component but not this time so I suppose
she changed this especially for me. I've "replied" to that mail to find out
if she can see my text now.

I have noted over recent months that there are a number of spam (or apparently
spam as I don't ever recognise the senders) mails I receive that have a
subject heading but no text nor enclosures according to KMail analysis of
contents. I always assumed it was the spammer's fault and I've as yet never
bothered to check the headers to see if anything apparent there. Next time I
will. Is it normal to be receiving these blank mails or could there after all
be a problem with my latest update of KMail? I didn't see anything strange re
it earlier because I don't ever seem to receive blank mails from email
addresses we recognise.

I asked our ISP if their spam filter (which operates on our business email
account, not our personal email account with them) could be stripping text
but sending on the rest of the mail to us. They thought this very unlikely -
what was the point, they said, in sending on a blank mail. Anyway, I'm not
bothered re that. If a spam filter is text stripping it doesn't matter to me.

But this now persistent problem with my friend (and with blank spam mails come
to that) has only been fairly recent, possibly since the last time we updated
KMail. I can't ever recall it happening in more distant past.

Ros

Thanks for this, Martin, it makes sense going on what actually happens - ie
some mails get through OK, some don't. Spam or AV software was also the other
suggestion from my ISP, come to think of it, but he didn't name any
particular spam software.

I'll pass this on to my contact next time she complains of a blank mail so I
have an offending mail to use as an example.

Ros
