This month we have found a nice new bar which is directly at

There are 3 floors in this place. Look for the level which has
the lonix sign on the door outside. (SECOND BAR)
There will be happy hour from 6pm to 7pm (I'll try to get that
extended though). Food is also served in the form of 12 inch
pizzas for 3.99. There are also a variety of cocktails and beers.
If you have any interesting videos to bring along they can
play them on their plasma screens. Clean videos only please :)
SuSe have also donated a boxed copy of their latest distribution
SuSe 7.2 Professional to give away, which contains 1 DVD and 7 CDs
packed with over 2000 packages. Some sort of pizza eating competition
will be arranged on Wednesday.
Also the HAL 2001 (Hackers at Large) takes place on the 10th->12th)
August near Amsterdam, if you are interested.

if you want to come along. Prices are approx £80-£90 pounds return
for flight (Heathrow) and £50 entrance for the 3 days. Accomodation

There is also a new look Lonix web site now up, if you want to go

Free Dmitry US Embassy Protest Tomorrow
******************************************************************
Dmitry Sklyarov is a 26-year-old Russian citizen and Ph.D. student
who studies cryptography. He is the father of two children
(2 1/2 year old son, 3 month old daughter).
He helped create the Advanced eBook Processor (AEBPR) software for
his Russian employer Elcomsoft. According to the company's website,
the software permits eBook owners to translate from Adobe's secure
eBook format into the more common Portable Document Format (PDF).
The software only works on legitimately purchased eBooks and has
been used by blind people to read otherwise-inaccessible PDF user's
manuals, and by people who want to move an eBook from one computer
to another (just like anyone can move a music CD from the home
player to a portable or car).
Sklyarov was arrested July 17 in Las Vegas, NV, apparently at the
behest of Adobe Systems, according to the DOJ complaint. He was
charged with distributing a product designed to circumvent copyright
protection measures. He is being held without bail in a Las Vegas
jail.
A protest is planned outside the US Embassy near Hyde Park tomorrow
(Friday) at 1300. We will meet at 1230 at Hyde Park Corner tube
station, and march from there to the Embassy. Please come! More
details can be found at: http://uk.freesklyarov.org/

Linux Expo 2001
******************************************************************
The Linux Expo went ahead successfully, as did the meeting afterwards
in the Auberge near Bond Street. Unfortunately it seems that the Linux
Expo in Birmingham will be postponed, we'll get you the date as soon
as we know when it has been moved to.
