Thanks all who've replied.
I should have said that the Sun in question is an old Sparc10 with an
MRI scanner attached :-) so we can't change the monitor as it's
specially shielded, and it's running proprietary software on top of
SunOs 4.1.4 (!!). It currently has one of the slightly figure-of-eight
shaped Sun mice, which is about an inch too long. I'm hoping to
attach a Logitech notebook wheel mouse, which is tiny and works fine
on my home Linux box.

So far I've turned up Semtech's SunAdapt as a possible solution, but
they say it _won't_ work with serial mice and PS/2 adapters. What I
don't know is if it will work with USB mice and PS/2 adapters.
Since all new mice seem to be native USB these days, I'm awaiting
clarification from the US office (UK tech contact being on holiday).
Not to mention finding somebody at the reseller's who will tell me how
many arms and legs it'll cost.

(The potentially nice thing here is I can plug in the Sun kb and
mouse, and additionally a PS/2 mouse, and so we can use either.
Perfect for a group of radiographers whose hands go from miniscule to
huge!)
