Really? Why? How come that almost all die-hard Unix geeks have heard of
Windows XP, but probably quite a lot of die-hard Windows geeks have not
heard of Debian?

Have you tried to install VMWare under some stock RedHat kernels? It
throws up various warnings about data corruption. It did that even with
some 'vanilla' kernels.

You are running Exim, then, not Sendmail? Most of the network tools are
BSD-licenced, too (ping, traceroute, etc.). But here's not the place to
get into licencing wars, so I call a stop to this section of the thread
here.
