Hunting around Red Hat's site I applied updates (using RPMs) to gcc and
glibc, which meant updates to all of the following:
cpp-2.96-85.i386.rpm
gcc-2.96-85.i386.rpm
gcc-c++-2.96-85.i386.rpm
gcc-chill-2.96-85.i386.rpm
gcc-g77-2.96-85.i386.rpm
gcc-java-2.96-85.i386.rpm
gcc-objc-2.96-85.i386.rpm
glibc-2.2.4-19.3.i686.rpm
glibc-common-2.2.4-19.3.i386.rpm
glibc-devel-2.2.4-19.3.i386.rpm
glibc-profile-2.2.4-19.3.i386.rpm
libstdc++-2.96-85.i386.rpm
libstdc++-devel-2.96-85.i386.rpm
and I now get interesting output like the following:
00981: binding file ./freader to /lib/i686/libc.so.6: normal symbol
`strlen' [GLIBC_2.0]
lookup 0x08048000 0x000001d8 -> 0x40024000 0x00087040 /1 strlen
00981: binding file ./freader to /lib/i686/libc.so.6: normal symbol
`printf' [GLIBC_2.0]
lookup 0x08048000 0x000001f8 -> 0x40024000 0x0005fde4 /1 printf
00981: binding file /lib/i686/libc.so.6 to /lib/i686/libc.so.6: normal
symbol `vfprintf' [GLIBC_2.0]
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
It manages to compile without any errors, and since it works elsewhere...welp!
